Hello Yellow! – PAC-MAN shines at IAAPA 2021

It may be hard to believe, but it’s absolutely true – we CAN keep our lips sealed when we want to. Instead of the ever-tantalising ankle-flashing promises of ‘big news’ during the annual lead-up to IAAPA Expo, we thought you could bear holding your breath a few more weeks so you could see the whole shebang for yourself. Now a week on, here’s our rundown of the newer products on the stand.

Our little yellow friend was perched high on his throne this year – alongside proven piece PAC-MAN Pixel Bash, we had PAC-MAN Battle Royale Chompionship (aka PAC-MAN Battle Royale 2!) and all-new, fully site-tested PAC-MAN Power Pellets – a skill-based ball throwing game where players have to shoot for PAC-MAN’s ever-eager mouth, next virtually appearing on the screen below in a “plinko style” game. The pedestal cabinet for PAC-MAN Battle Royale Chompionship is available in Q1 2022 and as an update kit for existing machines in the market to unlock the whole 8-player experience, with new power ups, mazes, and the usual heap of peppy PAC-MAN fun.  And here’s that cheeky ankle flash - there’s more news to follow on this title in 2022…

Our DC license featured again with super-duperly new Harley Quinn’s Mallet Mayhem which just about landed in time before the doors opened thanks to the determination of our Logistics team! The whacker was dreamt up in BANDAI NAMCO Amusement Europe HQ and developed together with partners from around the globe. Commercial & Sales Director James Anderson says, “Our Product Development team had been working on Harley Quinn’s Mallet Mayhem over the COVID period, and whilst we’re still tweaking certain elements, we’ll soon be getting this into production to satisfy the solid demand we gathered from the show.  The game is not only frantic fun but sparks community spirit as players work together to increase the bonus payout.”

We know and respect that there are always impassioned pleas for more Maximum Tune goodness, so 5DX+ was a well-received feature on the stand for the US market only.

Privy to the earnest internal emails that whipped around post-show, the gratitude and appreciation shown for the combined effort of the US and UK teams was very wholesome indeed. There was a lot of big love externally too, with both James and International Sales Manager Stuart Wood asserting the importance of face-to-face interaction with our customers and industry peers. The team’s mode of ‘living in the moment’ was well documented by the lack of team photos returned to us for this release – proof of busy days and busier nights! Stu adds “To hear that many customers and distributors have been working very hard in redeveloping their businesses and taking their FEC’s to the next level, along with our many projects in the pipeline surely makes for a supercharged 2022.” And so, we march on full steam ahead towards the imminent advent of EAG, where of course you’ll be meeting Sam Coleman – our latest member of the BANDAI NAMCO family.
